The most influential person in my baseball life, besides my father? “Cole Bertsch, my Coquitlam Little League coach. At MLB Combine

BA Rank: No. 121

It’s becoming an annual tradition to have a big-bodied, lefthanded-hitting Canadian slugger put on a show on the second day of the combine. Last year, Nathan Flewelling showed huge raw power. This year, it was Piasentin, who is the top-ranked Canadian prospect in the class and has the impact ability to follow Flewelling as a third-round pick on draft day.

Piasentin is a physically-advanced hitter with a powerful, 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame. He pairs big strength with big bat speed that led to a handful of towering home runs to the pull side during BP. He sets up with a slightly-open stance featuring a head-high handsetPiasentin has even more room on his frame to add strength and looks like the sort of hitter who could develop double-plus raw power and become a monster in the box in a few years. His hardest ball came off the bat at 110.2 mph, and he averaged a 98 mph exit velocity. Piasentin’s farthest hit ball went a projected 423.5 feet.

Defensively, he has a good arm for third base that could be a nice tool if he can stick at the position and a quiet hand load before firing his hands through the zone with an uphill path and steeper finish. It’s a ready-made swing to drive the ball with authority in the air.

MLB Draft League

Ranked 152nd nationally and the seventh ranked third baseman by Prep Baseball in the Class of 2025, Piasentin had a fantastic series for Team Canada. Batting .333 with a .867 OPS and a .420 wOBA, he has an unmistakable power talent with a 39% HHB rate, a 23% barrel rate, and a max exit velo of 107 mph. He roped a 96-mph, 368-foot double in his final game vs. the Draft League, where he saw time in right field and stole a base. The Miami commit’s impact goes beyond the batters box, as he also had an outfield assist in the game. He hosed a runner at second in the fourth inning, a play which added 3% in win probability to Team Canada.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 60 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45

“The Canadian province of Alberta has produced four big leaguers, a quartet of right-handed pitchers led by Michael Soroka. A year ago, Nathan Flewelling represented the western region as a big, strong left-handed high school hitter whom the Rays selected in the third round. Piasentin fits a similar profile as a young hitter who was rising up draft boards after showing off his tools in a swing through Arizona during spring training.

“At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Piasentin is a presence in the box from the left side of the plate. His standout tool is his raw power, and he can get to it. He had very impressive batting practice sessions with a wood bat in Arizona, showed he could catch up to premium velocity with a base hit to his pull side against a Royals Minor League reliever with upper-90s gas and turned around junior college competition during that Arizona trip. Not everyone is a believer in the hit tool as there is some swing-and-miss, with some scouts thinking it could take a while for him to be ready to produce good numbers as a pro.

“While Piasentin has a plus arm that works well from third base, it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to stay there. He’s a bit of a plodder with limited range, so a move to first base might be in order, while some wouldn’t mind seeing that arm in right field. He’s committed to Miami should the draft not work out, with some scouts thinking he could emerge as an early-round pick after a few years of college reps.”

Perhaps the top Canadian high school player in the class, Piasentin provides a classic big power, big arm third base profile. At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he has present physicality, strength and raw power with exit velocities already nearing 110 mph. He moves well for his size but is a definite corner profile who has a chance to stick at third base with a plus arm.
