BMOCs Goodall, Dennis, Robinson, Berube

RHP Marc Berube (Trois Pistoles, Que.) pitched the Pitt Panthers in an 8-4 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, working 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs — two earned — on eight hits and four walks while striking out three

Conference schedules are in full swing around college baseball as team look to position themselves well heading into the postseason. For many teams to do that, they must turn to some of their Canadian stars for leadership. Here is the latest from Canadians around the college baseball circuit.

Kellogg beats in-state rival:
Ryan Kellogg (Whitby, Ont.) improved to 6-1 on the season as he led his Arizona State Sun Devils to a big conference win over in-state rival Arizona over the weekend. Kellogg would toss 5 2/3 innings, scattering ten hits, giving up four earned runs, walking one and striking out six en route to the victory. Arizona State would take 2-of-3 on the weekend and improve their overall record to 23-10 and go to 11-4 in Pac 12 action. Kellogg’s next start is slated for this weekend when his Sun Devils travel to Seattle, Wash. to take on the University of Washington.

Staying on the pitching front:
Just when the Pittsburgh Panthers needed a win, a Canadian came up clutch. After splitting the first two games of an Atlantic Athletic Conference series with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons the Panthers turned the ball to Marc Berube (Trois Pistoles, Que.) in the finale. Berube would come up with a quality start, leading his team to the 8-4 victory. Berube would go 6 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits, four runs (two earned) with four walks and a trio of strikeouts. It was Berube’s first win on the season after some tough losses. The Quebec native is now 1-4 with a 4.00 ERA, not bad for being in one of the best conferences in college baseball.

Another Canadian in the ACC
[daniel pinero] While on the topic of the ACC, lets skip over the University of Virginia Cavaliers. Yeah, you guessed it, Daniel Pinero(Toronto, Ont.) was back at it, this time against Georgia Tech. But, just before we delve into that series I would like to point out that Pinero went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI against James Madison in a midweek. Now, back to Georgia Tech. In the opener, a 14-4 Virginia victory, Pinero went 2-for-4 with a triple and a single. He would also score two runs and add a pair of RBIs. He would then add a hit in a 1-for-5 performance in a Game 2 loss before ending the series by going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He would round out it out with a 1-for-4 game with a run scored against William and Mary in Virginia’s midweek. Virginia is set to take on Miami this weekend.

Degano’s streak snapped, but still solid:
It was quite the run over the past seven starts for Jeff Degano (Surrey, BC) Before going up against Illinois State over the weekend Degano had a streak of seven consecutive quality starts. He would come close to making it eight but unfortunately would fall just short. Degano threw seven innings allowing 12 hits, four earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Degano’s Indiana State Sycamores would drop the contest 5-3, which puts his record at 5-3 on the season. Regardless of the streak being snapped, Degano has put himself on the draft map over the past three months. On the plus side, there is always time to start a new streak this weekend against Dallas Baptist.

Lumley the man for Griffs:
Seven RBIs, not a bad weekend in college baseball. Well that is exactly how many runs Jake Lumley (Windsor, Ont.) plated in a single game this past weekend in the finale of Canisius’ series sweep over Saint Peter’s. Lumley would go 4-for-6 that included a home run and a double, he would score three runs and knock in seven in the 23-0 romp. Now, lets back track a bit. In a midweek leading up to the weekend series Lumley would go 1-for-6 with a run scored and three RBIs. In the opener against Saint Peter’s? A 3-for-4 performance with a run scored and another RBI. Game 2 saw no RBIs for Lumley but he still went 2-for-3 with a run scored. He would finish it all up by going 1-for-4 with a run scored against Buffalo. That is some solid production from the Griffs second basemen.

Stevenson lights out in win: [jp stevenson]
J.P. Stevenson (New Glasgow, PEI) dominated Saint Peters over the weekend. He cruised through eight innings of work surrendering just four hits, no runs, no walks and punched out six en route to the victory. It was a fun weekend to be a Golden Griffin.

More Griffs impress:
Brett Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) would go 1-for-4 to open the week for the Canisius Golden Griffins in a 4-1 loss to Youngstown State. In the wild 13 inning 18-15 Binghamton win, Siddall went 2-for-6 with a walk, with two runs and three RBIs. It was a 1-for-5 day in the opener of a weekend series with Saint Peters for Siddall. He would go a perfect 3-for-3 with two more runs scored and an RBI in Game 2, and 2-for-3 with a run and four RBIs in the 23-0 blowout Game 3. He would finish the week with a run scored against Buffalo. Siddall and his teammates now prepare for George Mason this weekend.

Stewart picks up W:
Devon Stewart (Maple Ridge, BC) threw a complete game in Canisius’ 8-3 win over Saint Peters. Stewart threw seven innings, giving up seven hits, three runs (two earned) did not allow a walk and four strikeouts. Stewart is now 3-5 in nine appearances, all starts over 58 1/3 innings with a 3.39 ERA. This was Stewart’s first complete game.

Making the Peg proud:
[chris shaw] Chris Shaw (Winnipeg, Man.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored as his Sooners were beaten by the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a midweek contest. Shaw would then go 1-for-6 with a double against the Texas Longhorns.

Boyd big for Cochise:
Louis Boyd (Vancouver, BC) would go 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs against Gateway Community College to kickstart himself to another good week on the diamond. After Gateway, Boyd would go 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 6-4 win over Eastern Arizona College. In the second game against Eastern Arizona, a 6-5 loss, Boyd would go 1-for-3 with two RBIs. He would then round out his week with two games against Arizona Western College. In the first game Boyd went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. In Game 2 he would finish with a 1-for-4 game.

Black records save in sweep of Eagles, win over MSU:
Tim Black (Mount Hope, Ont.) threw 2 2/2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, didn’t walk a man and struck out two in closing out the Central Michigan University Chippewas victory in the finale against Eastern Michigan over the weekend. He would also record the win, improving his record to 3-1 in a midweek victory over Michigan State. He would throw another scoreless inning without allowing a hit and walking one before his offence put up six run in the bottom of the ninth for the walk off win. Black is 3-1 in 16 appearances, most on the team, with nine saves and a 2.95 ERA over 21 1/3 innings pitched.

McGeein a standout for Eastern Michigan:
Mitchell McGeein (Calgary, Alta.) started off his week with a walk against Michigan. It would all go up from there for the young Canadian. The next night against Bowling Green he would walk again, this time scoring a run. He would then go 3-for-5 in the opener of a series with Central Michigan with another run scored and an RBI. In Game 2 he would go 1-for-4 with a run scored and another RBI. HE would then record a walk in the finale. EMU would then lock up with Bowling Green again and McGeein would go 1-for-4. He would reach base one more time with a walk in his teams upset 4-2 win over the Michigan Wolverines.

Peragine powers Seawolves: [mitchell McGeein] It was five wins in five tries over the last week. Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ont.) started it off for the Seawolves by working a walk in four at bats and scoring a run in a 10-3 win over the Manhattan Jaspers. Following that midweek it was a three game set against conference rival UMBC. In the opener Peragine worked three more walks and scored a pair of runs Stony Brook ousted UMBC 8-0. It took extra innings to decide the back end of the doubleheader and Peragine got in the hit column going 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the victory. Peragine would again go 2-for-4 in the final game with a run and an RBI to help his team complete the sweep. Peragine continued to get on base following the weekend as he earned a pair of walks and scored two runs in a midweek win over LIU Brooklyn.

Foster the hero for Huskies:
It was a Michael Foster (Pickering, Ont.) double that made the difference as the Northeastern Huskies defeated James Madison 1-0 over the weekend. Foster went 1-for-4 with an RBI to score the only run of the contest. Earlier in the week he went 1-for-4 against UConn, he then went 1-for-4 with a walk in a 4-1 loss to Boston College. After going hitless in game 2 against James Madison, Foster exploded for a 3-for-5 day with three runs scored and an RBI as NU swept aside JMU with a 7-5 win. Foster would add a pair of walks against Quinnipiac on Wednesday. Foster and his Huskies prepare for NYIT this weekend.

Dressler dominant again:
[steven-dressler1] Steven Dressler (Burlington, Ont.) threw another seven inning complete game for Cisco College as they downed Ranger College 11-2. Over the seven innings, Dressler scattered three hits, allowed two runs (one earned) walking two and striking out three. Dressler is not 5-2 on the season with a 3.23 ERA in nine appearances and 53 innings.

Antchak continues strong campaign:
Brad Antchak (Delta, BC) started his strong week with a 1-for-3 game with a run scored and a pair of RBIs against Arkansas Baptist College. It was in game 2 against ABC that Antchak really shone going a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Game 3 saw ABC quiet Antchak a bit despite him walking, scoring a run and recording another RBI. In the final game of the four game set Antchak chipped in with another two hits, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Next up was Maple Woods where he went 1-for-3 with a run and a couple of RBIs. In the final game before heading into the weekend Antchak would go 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Manuel solid on the bump:
Luke Manuel (Delta, BC) tossed a pair of shutout innings in his Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College victory over Arkansas Baptist. He would throw the two scoreless innings allowing just one hit and zero walks. He would next see action against MCC-Maple Woods. He would again throw two innings, this time allowing two hits, a run, walked one and struck out three. Antchak and Manuel have helped NEO to a 23-8 record so far this season.

JD Osborne makes another appearance: [jd osborne]
It is another familiar face making a presence known in the BMOC. J.D. Osborne (Whitby, Ont.) began the week with a 3-for-6 with a run scored and three RBIs for Polk State Community College against the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. In the following game he went 3-for-5 with two run and two RBIs. Osborne then fed on Rollins College JV going 1-for-4 with two runs and three more RBIs. It was another multiple hit game to round out the week as he went 2-for-5 with two more runs and yet another three RBIs against Southeastern University JVs.

Kirwer powers Purple Eagles:
Tanner Kirwer (Sherwood Park, Alta.) was helping lead the offensive charge for the Niagara Purple Eagles over the last week. In the first game against St. Bonaventure, Kirwer went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. In the back end of the doubleheader he would go 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Niagara would drop the front half while tying the back half of the midweek double dip. Niagara would turn it around on the weekend, taking 2-of-3 from Marist Red Foxxes. In Game 1, a 10-5 NU win, Kirwer lead off and went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Game 2 ended in an 8-6 Niagara victory with Kirwer collecting another pair of hits going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Marist would sneak out with a 3-2 win on Sunday, but Kirwer still managed a hit going 1-for-4. Niagara prepares for Monmouth this weekend.

Procopio pitches well for Niagara:
[daniel Procopio (1)] Kirwer was not the only one doing work for the Niagara Purple Eagles. Daniel Procopio(Toronto, Ont.) would toss a scoreless inning allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one in his team’s 3-3 tie with St. Bonaventure. Procopio would then throw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball in the finale against Marist. He would not allow a walk and struck out a pair.

Ducks take 4 of 5:
Phil Craig-St. Louis (Gatineau, Que.) helped lead the Oregon Ducks to four wins this week. In their first victory, 11-3 over Portland, Craig-St. Louis went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. In-state conference rival Oregon State was next on the docket. Craig St. Louis would collect a run scored in Game 2. Craig-St. Louis would make his biggest impact of the weekend in Game 3, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs while batting cleanup. Oregon would win the game 10-9 and take the series 2 game to 1. He would then collect an RBI in another midweek with Portland to round out the week. Oregon travels to Los Angeles this weekend to take on USC.

Hendricks leads Dons to 5-1 week:
How does 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, a run and an RBI to go along with an 8-3 win sound to start the week? Apparently to Brenden Hendriks (Cochrane, Alta.), it sounded pretty swell as that is exactly what he did to the University of Nevada. After that it was a conference showdown with Portland, a series in which the University of San Francisco swept. In Game 2 Hendriks went 1-for-3 but really made his presence felt in Game 3. He would go 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while batting 3rd in the Dons lineup.. On Monday, in a rematch with Nevada, a game Nevada would win 16-4, Hendricks went 1-for-4 with a run. The next night against UC Davis, Hendriks went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and a couple of RBIs.

Back-to-back BMOC appearances for Mountford: [jordan mountford]
Right fielder Jordan Montford (Guelph, Ont.) started off with a 1-for-5 day with a run scored against Rhode Island. His week would get better from there. In a weekend series with Central Connecticut, Montford started it off with a bang. He went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs while hitting leadoff for the Bulldogs. Game 3 saw Mountford go 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Game 4 saw him go 1-for-4 again with a walk and run scored. He would finish up his week going 1-for-5 with an RBI against UConn.

Robinson leads Morehead State to great week:
Chris Robinson (Uxbridge, Ont.) got his team started on the week with a 2-for-4 game with three runs and an RBI in a 15-4 win over Alabama A&M. Alabama A&M would come back for more the next night, but it was more of the same. Morehead State would take the game 11-8 and Robinson would go 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. He would then work three walks in the opening game of a weekend series with UT Martin, while he would go 1-for-5 with a run in Game 2. Game 3 was his best performance of the weekend as he went 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs. It was another game, another hit for Robinson as he went 1-for-5 with a run and two RBIs against West Virginia Tech. The week would close with Morehead’s only loss, to the Colonials or Eastern Kentucky. Robinson still managed a hit going 1-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Moore toes rubber against Canadian counterparts:
[jd moore] It was a very Canadian matchup whenJ.D. Moore (Mississauga, Ont.) stepped on the hill this past week for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Moore would throw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit, zero walks while striking out one against the Winnipeg Wesmen. He would then pick up a save on the weekend against rival North Dakota State. He would throw a scoreless inning, without allowing a hit or a walk and striking out one. He would throw another scoreless inning against Dakota State by allowing one hit, a walk and a strikeout. Not a bad week for the right hander. Moore is now 2-1 on the year through 11 appearances spanning 11 innings with three saves and a 3.27 ERA.

Boston blasts opposition:
Jordan Boston (Brampton, Ont.) got his week started off with a 1-for-3 game with a walk, a run and an RBI against Tougaloo. He would then go 1-for-3 against Alabama A&M and earn a walk in Game 2. Boston would have his best game of the week in the final game of the series. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Bauml proving he belongs:
Ever heard of Cole Bauml (Muenster, Sask.)? Yes he has made a few appearances in the BMOC and he is now making a name for himself across north America. The Northern Kentucky Norse recently had an article published about him on College Baseball Central. So just what did he do this week? He started it by going 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs against Eastern Kentucky. He would then go 1-for-4 in the first game of a weekend series with Kennesaw State. He would also walk and score a run. In Game 2 he would go 1-for-3. In Game 3 he would hit 2nd instead of 1st and respond by going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Even more impressive than his offence? Bauml owns a 1.000 fielding percentage while manning the outfield for the Norse. He currently leads NKU in almost all hitting categories with a .389 average with 30 runs scored (1st on team), 21 RBIs (1st on team), seven home runs (1st on team), 762 slugging percentage (1st on team). You could say he’s the straw that stirs the drink.
