TORONTO - In advance of their series finale against the Oakland A’s, the Toronto Blue Jays placed left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 10-day injured List with left forearm inflammation.
LHP Ryan Borucki (hamstring) has been activated off the IL to take Ryu’s place on the roster. Borucki will be available out of the Blue Jays’ bullpen on Sunday.
Through 24 games with Toronto in 2021, Borucki allowed 13 earned runs on 18 hits, striking out 21 and issuing 11 walks in 23 2/3 innings. At 1.225, his cumulative WHIP last year was the lowest total posted by the 6-foot-4 lefty in a season at the MLB level.
In a pair of starts dating back to April 10, Ryu has allowed 11 earned runs on as many hits. Those totals include six extra-base hits, two of which left the yard. Dating back to last September, 45 of the 126 batters he has faced (36%) have reached base.
If granted a clean bill of health, Ryu will be eligible to return to the active roster when the club squares off against the Boston Red Sox on April 26.
