Official Major League Baseball News Release
Pitcher Ryan Borucki of the Toronto Blue Jays has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally hitting Kevin Kiermaier of the Tampa Bay Rays with a pitch during the bottom of the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game at Tropicana Field.
Michael Hill, Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
In addition, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of Borucki’s intentional throwing. Montoyo will serve his suspension tonight, when the Blue Jays open their series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
The suspension of Borucki had been scheduled to begin tonight. However, he has elected to appeal. Thus, Borucki’s discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
