Bulls defeat Dawgs

Okotoks, AB — The Lethbridge Bulls snapped the Okotoks Dawgs home winning streak at nine games with an 8-6 victory on Tuesday night at Seaman Stadium.
Third basemen Dylan Borman was instrumental for the Bulls (8-12) with a pair of three-run home runs.
The finishing blow was delivered in the eighth inning after the Dawgs battled back to tie it at five. With two out and a 2-2 count, Borman cranked his second shot of the game over the left field fence in front of 2,385 fans.
Up until that point, the Dawgs (13-6) clawed their way back from a 4-1 deficit in the fifth when they finally got to Bulls starter Jaden Griffin.
Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas University) earned a one-out walk and Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) ripped a double down the third baseline. Nate DeChaine (Morningside College) wasn’t able to drive in a run, but when he struck out, Sanchez stole home for the second time this season.
Will Hollis (Cisco Community College) picked up an RBI in the first when he scored Sanchez with an infield single. He was back at it in the fifth when he slapped another single through the six-hole to plate Mascarenas and tied the game at four.
Dawgs first basemen Riley Baasch (Bellevue University) also picked up an RBI in the fourth when he scored Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University), who belted his third double in his last two games.
Griffin was keeping the Dawgs at bay up until then. The Vauxhall Academy of Baseball product produced 10 strikeouts through six innings in his third start of the season against the Dawgs.
Cam Doherty (Mesa Community College) made his fourth start of the year and second straight against the Bulls. He had four strikeouts through three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Bulls erupted with four-straight hits capped off by the first three-run blast by Borman.
DeChaine broke the tie in the bottom half of the seventh when he lifted a solo shot into the wind over the right field fence for his sixth home run of the season.
Borman’s second home run came off of Jordan Pepper (Seward County Community College), who got stuck with his first loss of the season.
Kale Penner came on in relief for the Bulls and improved his record to 2-2. Talon Derrick pitched the final two innings and picked up his second save of the season.
