Each week, there are several performances by Canadians in college baseball that could be considered the best.
And while that was the case again this week, it was Cory Wouters (Saskatoon, Sask.) whose name jumped off the boxscores the most.
Wouters got it done with his bat and his left arm for McCook Community College as the Indians took three of four from Bismarck State.
There’s a lot to get to, so let’s start from the top.
In Game 1, he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 14-4 victory.
He was even better in Game 2, which is in the early running for game of the year. Wouters went 4-for-4 with three home runs, a walk and five RBIs. But that wasn’t all, as he also got the start and threw four scoreless, hitless innings, giving up an unearned run on four walks. Ten of the 12 outs he recorded came by way of the strikeout as the Indians scored a 15-5 win.
Game 3 saw him go 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBI.
To close out the series he had a hit in his team’s only loss.
That’s 10 hits, three home runs, three walks and 10 RBI. Oh, and four scoreless innings with 10 punch outs.
Cory Wouters is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for Feb. 17 to 23.
