The power University of Charlotte infielder David McCabe (Oshawa, Ont.) displayed in his freshman season was impressive to say the least.

McCabe hit 14 home runs, drove in 35 and posted a 1.135 OPS in 37 games during his rookie campaign in 2021. The 49ers would go on to win 40 games and make it to the Greenville Regional.

So, what’s he done in 2022?

Well, the season isn’t even over yet and he's hit 10 home runs, driven in 33 and owns a 1.332 OPS in 28 games. He’s also hitting .389.

Last week was a prime example of what the former Ontario Blue Jay is capable of. He had 12 hits, six walks and 18 RBIs in five games. Six of his hits were home runs, with three coming in a 25-4 Game 2 win over Marshall. The three solo shots tied the record for home runs in a single game at Charlotte.

McCabe was later named the Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Hitter of the Week and the Conference USA Player of the Week.
