Gavin Logan’s patience is paying off.
For both the Oyen, Alta., product and the No. 5 Oregon State Beavers.
The path to the 2022 season has gone through Southeastern Community College, Linn-Benton Community College, and now Corvallis, Ore. Like the rest of college baseball, his 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time of the shutdown he was hitting .370 with six RBIs in eight games for Linn-Benton. Then in 2021 with Oregon State he played in just 10 games, making five starts.
Two years, 18 games. And now for the pay off.
Logan is hitting .375 with two home runs, eight RBIs and a 1.084 OPS for one of the top teams in Division I baseball. His fielding percentage is a sparkling 1.000 from behind the plate. And he’s already matched his total games played in 2021 with 10, all of which have been starts.
Last weekend when the Beavers opened Pac-12 play at Washington State, he went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and three RBIs in a 13-3 Game 1 win. He hit another home run, a solo shot, on his way to two hits in a 5-1 Game 2 win. In the finale, he had a hit, worked a walk, and drove in a run in a 9-8 loss.
Those numbers have earned the Okotoks Dawgs product the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for March 7-13.
