For the second week in a row, Matt Duffy (Burlington, Ont.) came through when his team needed him the most.
Duffy got the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament off on the right foot for the Canisius Golden Griffins when he threw a complete game, seven-inning shutout in an 11-0 Game 1 win over Niagara. Duffy gave up three hits, walked one and fanned seven.
He wasn’t done there, however.
The former Great Lake Canadians hurler was summoned from the bullpen during the championship game against Rider. He worked 3 1/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits, with a walk and four strikeouts to pick up the win and send the Golden Griffins to a regional.
The MAAC recognized his efforts by naming him the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
And for the second consecutive week, he is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week (May 23 to 29).
