It’s never easy narrowing down the top Canadian talent across college baseball each week and picking one player who stands out above the rest.
But this week’s selection had a performance that was hard to top.
Right-handed pitcher Owen MacNeil (Georgetown, Ont.) was nearly flawless as he threw a seven inning no-hitter to lead the University of Charleston to a 6-0 Game 2 win over Concord University.
He didn’t walk a hitter and fanned five in the outing.
If it weren’t for an error and two hit batters, MacNeil would’ve been perfect.
The former Terriers Baseball hurler is now 5-0 with a 2.54 ERA over 39 innings pitched in 11 starts. He’s holding opposing hitters to a .216 average.
MacNeil will have one more regular season start before the postseason begins when the Golden Eagles hit the road against West Virginia State University this weekend.
Owen MacNeil is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for April 22 to 28.
