Cazorla, Luther, Pearce lead Dawgs to win over Gulls

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Sylvan Lake Gulls 4-0 on Friday night to take a 1-0 series lead in the West Finals.
The Dawgs were led by stellar pitching and were able to capitalize on offensive opportunities.
The Dawgs are now one win away from advancing to the WCBL finals.
McCoy Pearce (Kamloops, B.C.) went 2-for-4 and started the scoring in the fourth, blasting a solo home run to give the Dawgs an early lead. Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a triple. Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) also contributed two hits and an RBI.
David Case started and struck out seven in five scoreless innings to earn the important Game 1 victory. Rylan Penner (Blumenort, Man.) had a stellar relief outing, striking out three batters. Relief efforts from Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) and Cade Herrmann helped to shut down the Gulls’ offence before Matt Wilkinson (Okotoks, Alta.) ended the game in the ninth, finishing with three strikeouts.
