Former Team Saskatchewan and Colby Trojans lynchpin, RHP Logan Hofmann (Muenster, Sask.) added four scoreless while picking up the win as Bradenton rallied to edge Daytona 6-5.

There was a buzz around the Bradenton Mauraders clubhouse as Logan Hofmann went a week without allowing a run.
What the big deal?
Last spring with the Northwestern State University Demons Hofmann (Muenster, Sask.) didn’t allow a single run. Now, mind you it was a shortened season, as he worked 28 innings before the pandemic hit. His sparkling spring landed him a second-team All-American berth and a spot on the annual Canadian Baseball Network all-Canadian college team First Team.
He had more votes than anyone except CBN Player of the Year David Mendham (Dorchester, Ont.) of the Connors State Cowboys.
Fact is Hofmann -- this week’s Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week ... the best of 90 pros -- does not allow many runs, no matter where he is going back to:
_ The Moose Jaw Miller Express in the Western Canada League when he gave up four in 14 1/3 innings (2.51 ERA) in 2018.
_ The Falmouth Commodores on Cape Cod as he allowed six in 16 innings (3.38) in 2019.
_ With Northwestern State when he put up a bunch of zeros ... pitching 28 innings and not giving up an earned run (0.00) last spring.
_ And this year he has allowed three runs in 21 1/3 innings (1.38).
Hofmann was a fifth-round selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates last June. He was the 138th player selected in North America. A Saskatchewan player has never gone earlier in the draft. RHP James Avery (Moose Jaw, Sask.) was selected by Cincinnati Reds scout Bill Byckowski (Erin, Ont.) in the fifth round yet went 152nd overall.
Avery, who pitched eight years in the minors -- peaking at triple-A Louisville -- and four years in Mexico, has instructed Hofmann 1-on-1. Avery also pitched well for Canada at the 2008 Bejing Olympics.
Hofmann, chosen in the 35th round by St. Louis in 2019, had his outing against the Daytona Tortugas before 708 fans at LECOM Park. He took over in the sixth with Bradenton trailing 5-4.
He allowed two base runners -- a walk and a single -- while striking out nine. Then, he put his feet up and watched Bradenton score a pair in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win.

Logan Hofmann had another outstanding relief appearance this past week for Bradenton, on June 11 in a 6-5 win over the Daytona Tortugas he pitched four scoreless innings, gave up one base hit while striking out nine Daytona batters, to earn his third win of the season. Hofmann (Muenster, Sask.), 21, improved his record with the Marauders in eight Low A - Southeast League appearances, to 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA.

Carter Loewen (Abbotsford, BC) is active as the closer for Ft. Wayne, and the 22-year-old is having a very productive rookie season. This week he had two appearances, the first on June 10th in a 5-4 win over Lake County Captains when he threw two scoreless allowing zero hits and while striking out two to earn the win. On June 13 in a 7-6 win over the Captains, he pitched one scoreless, surrendering one base hit and picked up his sixth save of the season. To date his six saves rank him first, and the 13 relief appearances rank second, in the High A - Central League. His overall record with the TinCaps now stands at 1-1, with six saves and a 5.40 ERA.
