CBN Player of the Week, Week XVII _ Andrew Yerzy
August 27, 2021

Canadian Baseball Network
It took a little bit of work -- mostly by our resident bloodhound sleuth Kevin Glew -- to get a ball park number on our weekly Canadian Baseball Network reports.
This is the 440th Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week round up summary we have done. And the only reason we asked for help is to establish what a special week this was.
My first week joining this group was in April of 2003 and my 300th was June 29, 2015. This is all to explain how rare the seven-day period was ... a lot of extra-base hits, wins, losses, saves and home runs have transpired since 2003.
C Andy Yerzy belted five home runs this week for class-A Hillsboro. I’m not 100% certain, yet in my time of submitting these weekly summaries, I can’t recall anyone else ever hitting five homers in a single week.
Not surprisingly, the Diamondbacks promoted Yerzy (Toronto, Ont.) -- signed by former Arizona Diamondbacks scout Doug Mathieson (Aldergrove, BC) -- to double-A Amarillo at the end of the week.
How the week that was went for Yerzy, the former Toronto Met:
_ Catching and hitting third, Yerzy homered in a 6-1 Hillsboro loss to the Spokane Indians before 2,779 fans at Avista Stadium. Yerzy broke up the shut out bid leading off the top of the ninth with a line drive to right. It was his 10th homer of the season,
_ Batting clean up and DHing, Yerzy was 2-for-3 with three RBIs as Hillsboro was edged 4-3 by Spokane in front of 3,782 fans at Avista. Yerzy hit a two-run homer to right in the first, his 11th and homered to right-centre in the fourth, his 12th.
_ As the DH and hitting fourth, Yerzy went deep again in an 11-3 loss in front of 4,223 fans. He hit a solo homer to right centre in the eighth, his 13th.
_ Catching and sitting fourth in the lineup, Yerzy was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks in an 8-7 loss to Spokane in 10 innings. He singled to right leading off the second.
_ Didn’t play in an 8-6 loss to Spokane.
_ Playing first and hitting third, he homered again as Hillsboro dropped a 9-2 decision to Spokane in front of 3,518. Yerzy homered to left in the sixth, his 14th.
_ Didn’t play in an 8-2 win over the Vancouver Canadians in front of 1,999 fans at Ron Tonkin Field.
In 61 games at Hillsboro, Yerzy had nine doubles, 14 homers, 39 RBIs, a .229 batting average and a .828 OPS.
