Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release
The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 5-2 on Thursday night, sweeping the two-game series.
Solid pitching and hot bats powered the Dawgs’ offence to take an early lead and improve to 17-5 on the season. The Dawgs have regained their footing at home and remain atop the west division standings.
Brady Baltus pitched six innings, allowed three hits and finished with five strikeouts earning his second win of the season. Relief efforts from Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta.), Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) and Cade Hermann backed up Baltus’ performance contributing to the team's victory.
Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) got the Dawgs’ offence rolling by launching a three-run homer in the first inning. Cazorla has now hit a home run on back to back days bringing his season total to three. Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) also found the hit column, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. JJ Hoover was inserted back into the lineup and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and turned in a solid defensive performance behind the plate.
The Dawgs will be back in action on Friday night as they host the Sylvan Lake Gulls for the final game of their homestand.
