Dawgs announce several player signings for 2024

The Dawgs are excited to welcome back several key members from their 2023 championship team for the 2024 season.

The Dawgs will look to capture their third consecutive Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) championship in 2024. It would be their eighth WCBL title since 2004.

Here is a list of the players that have recently been signed:

Tucker Zdunich

Outfielder | Reinhardt University

Zdunich (High River, Alta.) was an integral part of the 2022 championship season. In 50 games, Zdunich hit .306 with 17 doubles, five home runs and 44 RBIs. Look for him to provide thump in the middle of the lineup in 2024.

Ricardo Sanchez

Infielder | Lamar University

Sanchez (Okotoks, Alta.) supplied stellar defence while playing a pivotal role at the top of the Dawgs’ lineup in 2023. Although his offensive output was down, Sanchez still managed to collect six doubles, two triples and 20 RBIs while scoring 34 runs. Look for him to bounce back and have a dominant 2024 season.

Cade Herrmann

RHP | Bellevue University

During the 2023 regular season, Herrmann struck out 32 batters in 23 2/3 innings and posted a stingy 2.28 ERA.

Garrett Maloney

RHP | Campbellsville University

Maloney was solid for the Dawgs in 2023. In 18 appearances, including five starts, he went 5-2 and fanned 44 batters in 34 2/3 innings.

Elijha Hammill

Utility | Central Arizona College

Hammill (Oakville, Ont.) proved to be versatile as he split time in the middle infield and outfield in 2023. In 30 games, he hit .301 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 21 RBIs with 20 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.

Aidan Rose

Infielder | UBC

Rose (Calgary, Alta.) was solid in the 2023 season. In 31 games, he hit .294 with five doubles and 16 RBIs.

Brody Forno

RHP | Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Forno (Okotoks, Alta.) was effective as both a starter and relief pitcher in 2023. In 14 games, he struck out 34 batters in 31 1/3 innings and posted a 2.01 ERA.

Ryan McFarland

RHP | Campbellsville University

McFarland (Calgay, Alta.) posted a 3.40 ERA in 34 1/3 innings in 18 games (four starts) for the Dawgs during the 2023 season.

Quinn Tocheniuk

RHP | Rogers State University

Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) worked out exclusively out of the bullpen during the 2023 season. In 19 appearances, he struck out 16 and walked just two batters in 17 1/3 innings.

Gavin Wuschke

RHP | Bellevue University

Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) went 3-0 and fanned 28 batters in 35 1/3 innings in 13 games (six starts) for the Dawgs in 2023.
