The Okotoks Dawgs beat the Sylvan Lake Gulls 7-1 on Saturday night to sweep their second-round series and advance to the Western Canadian Baseball League finals.
The Dawgs outscored the Gulls 17-6 in the best-of-three series and have won five games in a row dating back to the end of the regular season.
The Dawgs will play either the Medicine Hat Mavericks or Moose Jaw Miller Express in the finals. The two clubs will play the deciding game of their second-round series tonight.
Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) led the way offensively for the Dawgs on Saturday, belting a three-run home run in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 21 games. Luther finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs on the night.
Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) added two hits and an RBI for the Dawgs in the win.
On the mound, Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) started and allowed just one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
The date and times for the WCBL finals will be announced after Sunday’s game between Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat.
