The Okotoks Dawgs dropped their second straight contest to the visiting Swift Current 57s when they were defeated 3-1 on Saturday night at Seaman Stadium.

This marked the first time the Dawgs have lost two consecutive games at home this season.

The 57s pitching staff, anchored by starter Garrett Hawkins (Biggar, Sask.) who tossed five scoreless innings, allowed just four hits in the contest.

On the flip side, 57s batters clubbed a double in each of the first three innings, before left fielder Breyden Eckout hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the 57s a 2-0 lead.

The 57s appeared to be on the verge of adding to their lead in when they loaded the bases in the sixth but Dawgs starter Justin Hammergren escaped the inning without allowing a run. In all, Hammergren permitted two runs on eight hits, while striking out four, in six innings on the night.

The Dawgs registered just their second hit of the contest when William Hollis singled in the eighth inning. Micah McDowell was then sent in to pinch run for Hollis and he would come in to score on a two-out double by Meadow Lake, Sask. native Brett Esau.

The 57s, however, restored their two-run lead on a wild pitch thrown by Dane Tofteland in the top of the ninth inning.

The Dawgs couldn’t muster a comeback in the bottom of the frame and dropped just their 14th decision of the season.

Game three of the series takes place on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.
