The Okotoks Dawgs have re-signed shortstop Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.)
The club made the announcement in a social media post on Wednesday.
A sparkplug at the top of the Dawgs’ lineup for the past two season, Luther has earned the nickname Mr. August for his clutch hitting in the post-season, which has garnered him back-to-back WCBL Playoff MVP honours.
This past August, Luther helped the Dawgs to their second consecutive WCBL title when he hit .344 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 32 post-season at bats. This came after he batted .448 and scored 11 runs in seven playoff games for the Dawgs in their 2022 championship run.
The 6-foot-1 middle infielder has also been an outstanding regular season performer for the Dawgs. In 38 games in 2023, he batted .338 with a homer and 28 RBIs. He also had 52 hits and 28 runs.
For his efforts, he was named to the Alberta Dugout Stories 2023 All-WCBL Team.
In 2022, his first season with the Dawgs, Luther hit .357 and had 66 hits - including 15 doubles - in 48 games. He also swiped 12 bases and had 33 RBIs.
In between his summers with the Dawgs, Luther has starred for the NAIA’s Bellevue Bruins. In 2023, he hit .361 with two home runs and 20 RBIs in 28 games for the Bruins.
Prior to joining the Dawgs, Luther honed his skills with the Oakville A’s, Etobicoke Rangers and Okanagan College Coyotes. He also suited up for the WCBL’s Edmonton Prospects in 2019 and 2021.
