The Okotoks Dawgs have re-signed infielder Ricky Sanchez.
Sanchez was a key player on the Dawgs’ back-to-back Western Canadian Baseball League championship-winning teams in 2022 and 2023.
In 41 games with the Dawgs in 2023, Sanchez, who was born in Mexico, but moved to Okotoks when he was 15, posted a .365 on-base percentage (OBP) and had 34 runs and 12 stolen bases.
Prior to that, he hit .342 and had a .455 OBP in 52 games in 2022. That campaign, he recorded 64 hits - including 15 doubles and four triples - and 37 walks and was named the WCBL MVP.
In between his 2022 and 2023 summers with the Dawgs, Sanchez batted .323 with seven home runs and 71 RBIs, while swiping 22 bases, for Barton Community College. That performance earned him First Team All-KJCC West honours and selection to the 2023 Alberta Dugout Stories All-College Team.
Sanchez will be continuing his college career this spring at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas
