Dawgs tally 20 hits in win over Prospects

OKOTOKS, Alta. — The Okotoks Dawgs downed the Edmonton Prospects 11-7 at Seaman Stadium on Sunday.

The Dawgs (19-10) racked up a season-high 20 hits in front of 4,234 fans. The Dawgs now lead the season series 4-1.

Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University) recorded a team-high four hits, while Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) and Marcus Skundrich (Mesa Community College) each picked up three hits.

The Prospects (13-18) pushed across the first run in the first when Nick Spillman scored Mike Gahan on a single to left field.

They tacked on another run when Percy Liu doubled to right-centre to score Beaux Guilbeau. Liu struck again in the fourth when he drove in a pair with his second double in as many at bats.

The Dawgs strung together five consecutive hits in the second inning, highlighted by a bases clearing double by Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas University). Brandon Sparks (Bellevue University) also picked up his 10th RBI of the season. Sparks later added another RBI in the eighth when he scored Mascarenas with a sacrifice fly.

The Prospects tied the game at five in the top of the sixth when Jake MacDonald recorded the sacrifice fly, which scored Eric Crain.

The Dawgs scored four runs again in the sixth inning when Will Hollis (Cisco College), Abdiel Alicea (Tabor College) and Mascarenas registered base hits and RBIs. Nate DeChaine (Morningside College) also picked up his team-leading 27th RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Adding on in the seventh was Ridout, who drove home Skundrich with his third hit of the game.

Mason Swegarden (Mayville State University) gave up seven hits but kept the Prospects to four earned runs over six innings. His record improved to 4-0.

Jared Spearing (University of British Columbia) came on for the top of the eighth and surrendered a pair of runs, but only one earned.

Prospects starter Taran Oulton went 4 2/3 innings, gave up five earned runs, 10 hits and struck out five batters, as his record dropped to 2-1.
