Elliott: Hoshizaki the hit man heads to Stephen F. Austin

Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes' Ben Hoshizaki has littered the GC Field with line drives, rockets, flares and bloop hits in Chandler, Az.

OF Hoshizaki (Calgary, Alta.) will be moving from one baseball heaven to another, as he’ll be leaving Arizona bound for Texas. The Okotoks Dawgs grad will soon be a member of the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in Nacogdoches, Tex.

No sir. Austin was often called “The Father of Texas,” carving out his place in history by bringing 1,000s of settlers to Texas. By the time he died in December 1836, Austin had settled over 1,500 families and built the foundation of what had become the Republic of Texas.

Hoshizaki has 59 hits in 45 games and is batting .360 with eight doubles, two triples and 23 RBIs. He is 38-for-42 stealing bases and has a .879 OPS.
