Official Nanaimo Clippers News Release

The Nanaimo Clippers are elated to announce the promotion of local product, Josh Burgmann, to the position of head scout & director of player personnel.

Burgmann joined the Nanaimo Clippers in 2021 as a regional scout. Through hard work and attention to detail, he was promoted to head scout not long after his arrival with the team. Through his time with the organization, he has played a vital role in the scouting and recruiting of some high-performing players dressed in orange on game nights.

“The recruiting process is definitely not done by an individual, it’s a collective team effort,” said Burgmann. “Being part of the recruiting process for players who have come in and had quite a bit of success is certainly validating that we are doing a good job of making sure we are bringing in kids who are first and foremost good people, along with being talented hockey players.”

Burgmann’s passion and reputation in sports, transcends beyond hockey and his exceptional scouting acumen. As a former baseball standout drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2019, Burgmann made a compelling pivot in his sports career following an injury. His deep understanding of sports, coupled with an intuitive grasp of player dynamics, equips him to lead the team's scouting initiatives with finesse for the season to come.

“I have really enjoyed my time working for the Clippers and their first-class staff. Being a kid that grew up in the city, going to games, and cheering on the Clippers, to now being a part of the Hockey Ops staff that puts the team together, has been a full circle moment for me personally,” Burgmann reflected., “I’m extremely grateful to the entire organization for giving me a chance to be part of the Nanaimo Clippers and the BCHL. I am looking forward to the 2023/24 season and beyond.”
