VICTORIA, B.C. — Going 6-0 with a 1.08 ERA was more than enough to get Logan MacNeil the attention of voters for the West Coast League all-star team, as the Vancouver product who pitched at New Mexico JC in the spring was named to the first team today.
Oddly, the HarbourCats led the WCL in just about every offensive category but no hitter was voted to the first team -- nine of the 10 first-team position players were from the South Division. For the HarbourCats, shortstop Hudson Shupe (Gonzaga), catcher/first baseman Tyler Davis (Fresno State) - who was top five in home runs, hits and RBIs - made the second team, as did lefty Davis Franklin (Puget Sound), who was 2-1 with four saves and a 1.44 ERA.
Listed as honourable mentions were outfielders Michael Crossland, Dallas Macias and Nick Dumesnil, catcher Russell Young (Surrey, B.C.), infielder Jack Johnson, and pitcher Jack Seward (Port Moody, B.C.).
The HarbourCats finished 38-15 and set a WCL record with a 25-2 record at Wilson's Group Stadium at RAP, then went 3-1 in the playoffs including two more home wins -- falling in the WCL championship by a 5-0 score in Corvallis. That was the third time the HarbourCats have been to the WCL title, also losing the final game in 2017 and 2019.
The league still has awards to announce, including coach of the year and top prospect, expected on Friday. The full list of award winners can be found at the WCL website.
