The Guelph Royals have re-signed shortstop Conner Morro.

Morro, a three-time IBL champion with the Barrie Baycats in 2016, 2017 and 2019, joined the Royals via trade in the winter of 2020.

In his two seasons in the Royal City, the 2016 IBL Rookie of the Year has hit nine home runs in 58 games, while walking more (29) than striking out (28).

The Ontario Blue Jays alum is also a two-time IBL All-Star, having been voted one in 2016 and 2022.

Morro said he cannot wait to suit back up with the Royals this summer.

"I'm very happy to be back with the Royals for 2024. Being back at Hastings with teammates, coaches and fans is something I didn't want to miss out on this summer. I look forward to competing for the IBL championship with this great organization."

Royals manager Dino Roumel spoke highly of Morro.

"In a league that has some outstanding shortstops, I think we have just re-signed the best,” said Roumel. “One of our first moves when we got here was to acquire Conner along with Darren Shred in a trade from Barrie and it was one of the best moves we have made as an organization.

“I have had the pleasure of watching him play since he was a teenager and I have only met a few players with the type of feel for the game that Conner has. His instincts are incredible and he plays the game with such a high level of toughness and competitiveness. I can see why he teaches the game to younger players. He is a student of the game and to his credit, is passing on that knowledge. One of the main reasons I came back to manage this year was to be able to possibly celebrate a championship run with Conner Morro."
