GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Royals have signed left-handed pitcher Rhys Montgomery.

Montgomery, 21, joins the Royals after spending the 2022 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In his rookie season with the Leafs, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound southpaw went 1-0 with a 3.70 earned run average in seven appearances.

The Mississauga, Ont., native said he is looking forward to suiting up with the Royals this summer.

"I am looking forward to playing with a great group of guys this season. I have a lot to prove coming into the year and am thankful for the opportunity provided to me by Guelph."

Royals manager Dino Roumel said adding a young arm in Montgomery is a big get for the Royals.

"We are so excited to welcome Rhys to our pitching staff,” said Roumel. “Rhys is a talented young man and yet another player that we have added this offseason who has versatility as a starter or reliever. He is a competitor and a great addition to our clubhouse."
