GUELPH, ONT. - The Guelph Royals have signed three-time IBL all-star Liam Wilson.
Wilson, 29, joins the Royals after spending his last four seasons with the Kitchener Panthers.
While with Kitchener, Wilson cemented himself as one of the best hitters in the IBL, leading to him being named a first-team All-Star in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
It was in 2023 when Wilson had his career year, batting .323 with 13 home runs, good enough for third in the league.
Prior to his IBL career, the Kitchener, Ont., native played Division One baseball at Canisius College with now fellow Royal Conner Morro, where he twice made the All-Conference First Team. Wilson also holds the record for most doubles in school and conference history.
Wilson, who also briefly played professionally for the Quebec Capitales, said he is looking forward to a fresh start in Guelph.
"I couldn’t be more excited and thankful to be putting on the Royals uniform. The opportunity to join an organization with a competitive culture and talented group of players like this, a few of which I’m close friends with, was one that I knew I couldn’t pass up. I’m itching to get to work on winning ballgames in Guelph this summer.”
Royals manager Dino Roumel said adding Wilson solidifies the middle of the Royals’ lineup.
"We are so excited to have the opportunity to have Liam join us this season. I've always loved the way he plays the game, especially offensively. Along with being another quality guy in the clubhouse, he will provide some added pop to the middle of our order."
