Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

Hamilton, Ont. - The Hamilton Cardinals announced today the re-signing of outfielder Tyler Duncan for the upcoming 2024 season, his third season with the club.

Duncan, a native of Sooke, B.C., is coming off a historic MVP campaign where he became the first ever Hamilton Cardinals player to receive the John Bell Memorial Trophy awarded to the league’s most valuable player.

In 2023, Duncan batted .355 in the regular season and set new Cardinals’ franchise season records for most HRs (17) and RBIs (54). Off-the-field, Duncan has become a leader in the Hamilton baseball community by leading the Hamilton Cardinals Skills Clinics and Summer Camp.

A former member of the Junior National Team, Duncan was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB draft before attending Arkansas State University.

“Dunc only had three homers in our first 35 games, and then at one point it felt like he’d hit one every AB,” said Cardinals general manager George Halim. “We’re really proud of him for winning MVP. If anyone’s healthy enough to try and win it on a clean slate next season, it’s probably him. Dunc rakes, doesn’t sit and his defence has its own highlight reel.”
