Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Jose Vasquez for the 2025 IBL season.

Vasquez, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of Cambridge, Ont., has spent the past two seasons with the Kitchener Panthers. He has shown his versatility as both a starting pitcher and a reliever. In his IBL career, he has posted an impressive record with 140 strikeouts in 121 innings and only 37 walks.

Vasquez began his IBL career with the Brantford Red Sox in 2016. That season, he pitched 8 2/3 innings across four regular-season games, recording six strikeouts. In the playoffs, he delivered a strong performance, posting a 1.28 ERA with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Beyond the IBL, he also competed professionally in the American Association and in the Frontier League. With the Winnipeg Goldeyes, he pitched 44 2/3 innings over two seasons, picking up 47 strikeouts and walking only nine batters.

Vasquez returned home to Canada after a successful collegiate career in the US. In 2017, at Grayson College in Texas, he appeared in 19 games over 30 innings with a 1.80 ERA, one save, and 26 strikeouts while allowing 12 runs (six earned) and issuing 12 walks without surrendering a home run.

The following season, he transferred to Northwestern State University, where from 2018 to 2019 he posted an 8‑4 record with a combined 4.18 ERA, including a 2.90 mark in 2018 (six wins, four saves, and 33 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings) and 23 strikeouts in 20 innings in 2019.

“Jose brings tremendous versatility and depth to our organization. His ability to serve as both a spot starter and a bullpen reliever. This was a big decision for Jose, I think his trust and familiarity with Perry Scott—who is in our front office, made it a more comfortable transition to our organization. Jose has proven himself in this league and strengthens our team considerably” said Cardinals owner Eric Spearin.
