IBL's Kitchener Panthers bolster bullpen with three veterans

KITCHENER, Ont. - David Bruinsma, Brett Reid and Adam Robertson are heading into the 2024 season with the Kitchener Panthers, looking to help lead the way in the bullpen.

With Bruinsma, Kitchener gets its big body reliever back on the hill for a fifth season. The 25-year-old Kitchener native has been called upon 42 times in his IBL career. He made 12 appearances from the pen last season, nabbing 13 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. Bruinsma played collegiately both at Iowa Central Community College (NJCAA D2) and the University of Guelph (OUA).

Reid found success in his second year in the league in 2023, transitioning from a starter to a reliever. The Exeter, Ont., native made 16 appearances last season, including a pair of starts. He struck out 16 in 19 2/3 innings. The Great Lake Canadians alum also went to Wilfrid Laurier University and played for the OUA’s Golden Hawks.

Robertson (Waterloo, Ont.) is headed into a fourth year with the Panthers organization. He is also a Golden Hawks alum. He was a two-time OUA champion at Laurier in 2018 and 2019, and later went to Brock University’s teacher’s college. Last season, the lefty made 14 relief appearances, posting a 6.87 ERA in 18 1/3 innings. He struck out 14.

The Panthers begin their IBL season at home to the Hamilton Cardinals on Thursday, May 16.
