LONDON, Ont. - The Intercounty Baseball League’s London Majors have signed former New York Yankees catching prospect Eduardo de Oleo.
Originally signed as an international free agent by Yankees in 2010, de Oleo spent five seasons in the Bronx Bombers’ organization, rising as high as class-A before moving onto the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
In his single season with the Diamondbacks, de Oleo competed at three different levels, finishing with the double-A Mobile BayBears. From there, the now 30-year-old would advance to the triple-A level in 2017 and 2018 in the Houston Astros organization.
Over his minor league career, de Oleo has batted .241 with 31 home runs and 153 RBIs in eight seasons. Defensively, he threw out 36% of the runners attempting to steal against him.
Most recently, de Oleo played with the Gigantes of the Dominican Winter League where his teammates were major leaguers Eloy Jimenez (Chicago White Sox) and Wander Franco (Tampa Bay Rays).
“De Oleo has a proven track record with professional experience which is critical for our club and pitching staff,” said Majors field manager and co-owner Roop Chanderdat. “We needed a catcher that can take charge and be a leader on the field which Eduardo has proven to do over his career. Eduardo is a good hitter that will be a big part of our lineup.”
