TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed third baseman Johnathan Solazzo.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Solazzo (Mississauga, Ont.) is entering his 14th season in the IBL.

Last season was one of his best. He hit .333 in 36 games and registered career-highs with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs. For his efforts, he was named a First Team IBL All-Star.

In his IBL career, Solazzo has hit .297 with 76 home runs (ninth in IBL history) and 337 RBIs (11th in IBL history).

"What Solazzo has done and means to this Leafs team is so underrated,” said Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury. “This guy is a leader on and off the field. He produces year in and year out and he always has a kind word to say and a smile doing what he loves to do. He is one of the IBL's nicest guys, but he also plays the game with fire and determination."

For his part, Solazzo is looking forward to returning to the Leafs this season.

"It is an honour to have the Maple Leaf crest on my chest and to be able to play in front of family, friends and the best fans in the league,” he said.
