Blue Jays from Away

The Blue Jays' minor league teams had six games on the schedule, getting wins from Buffalo, Bluefield and the DSL Blue Jays while the Dunedin Blue Jays had their game postponed.

Buffalo Bisons 6, Indianapolis Indians (PIT) 3

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons picked up a win by beating the Indianapolis Indians by a 6-3 score.

Thomas Pannone returned to the starting rotation, getting stretched out to throw four innings, tossing 66 pitches and he dominated, giving up only one hit and striking out eight in his return to Buffalo. Tayler Saucedo gave up two runs on four hits with a walk in 1 2/3 innings and Zach Jackson got the win, allowing an unearned run on a hit with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Buddy Boshers walked one and struck out one in the ninth for the save.

The Bisons' batters did some battering of their own, getting 13 hits with home runs from Jordan Patterson (1/4, 2 RBI) and Richard Urena (2/4, 2 RBI). Anthony Alford was 3/4 with a double and a run, adding a stolen base while Reese McGuire (2/4, RBI, R) and Jonathan Davis (2/3, 2 2B, BB, 2 R) had two hits each. Bo Bichette was 0/4 but stole a base and Socrates Brito (1/4), Andy Burns (1/3, BB, RBI) and Roemon Fields (1/4) had a single each.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 3

In their last game of the first half, the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost again to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 3-2 in 10 innings.

Zach Logue had an excellent start for the Fisher Cats, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, striking out three and allowing five hits. Jackson McClelland took over, tossing a scoreless eighth but Dany Jimenez got into trouble in the ninth, giving up a double and a single but then settled down to get the next three batters before coming back out for the 10th. While he retired the first two batters in the 10th, he intentionally walked a batter, putting runners on first and second, then threw a wild pitch, getting runners to second and third before walking the next batter and giving up a single to score two runs and give Binghamton the lead. Bryan Baker came on to strike out the final Rumble Pony of the game, leaving Jimenez with 1 2/3 innings pitched, two runs (one earned) allowed with three hits and two walks and three strikeouts.

The hitters had just seven hits with three of them accounted for by Nash Knight who was 3/4 with a run and a stolen. Logan Warmoth drove in a run with a sac fly and Chad Spanberger (1/3, BB), Vinny Capra (1/4, RBI), Forrest Wall (1/5), and Santiago Espinal (1/5) had singles.

Vancouver Canadians 1, Eugene Emeralds (CHC) 3

The Vancouver Canadians only scored one run on seven hits, falling 3-1 to the Eugene Emeralds.

Trevor Schwecke was 2/4, as was Yorman Rodriguez while Will Robertson and Luis De Los Santos were both 1/4 and Dom Abbadessa was 1/3 with a run and two stolen bases. Adrian Ramos was 0/2 but drove in the club's only run and took a walk.

The Blue Jays' 22nd-round draft pick from 2019, Nick Fraze, started on the mound, tossing three innings of one-run ball, giving up just two hits with one strikeout. Alex Nolan, a non-drafted free agent from Burlington, Ontario, went five innings, giving up just one unearned run on four hits with one strikeout and Grayson Huffman allowed a run on two hits with one strikeout in the ninth.

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Elizabethton Twins (MIN) 0

The Bluefield Blue Jays got into the win column, evening their record at 1-1 with a 6-0 shutout of the Elizabethton Twins.

Lazaro Estrada went five innings for the win, giving up four hits and striking out four while Naswell Paulino earned the save, giving up a hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

Spencer Horwitz led the offence, going 3/4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run, while Leonardo Jimenez was 2/4 with an RBI and two runs while Patrick Morris went 2/4 with a home run and two RBI. Steward Berroa was 1/5 with a double and a run and catcher Ryan Sloniger, the Jays' 38th-round pick, was 1/4.

DSL Blue Jays 7, DSL Orioles1 3

The DSL Blue Jays got away beat the DSL Orioles1 club again, winning 7-3.

Wilgenis Alvarado threw five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out one for the win. Juan Martinez allowed a run on three walks over one inning, striking out one, hitting a batter and throwing three wild pitches and Marc Civit tossed two innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Jorman Gonzalez allowed a run on a walk with two hit batters and a wild pitch in 1/3 of an inning and Bejardi Meza got the save, coming in to retire both batters he faced.

Gabriel Martinez and Adrian Montero took three walks each with both of them scoring three times and Montero going 1/2 with two stolen bases. Javier D'Orazio was 2/5 with an RBI and a run, adding a stolen base while Daniel Oliva was 1/5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Juan Pizarro was 1/5 with an RBI and an outfield assist and Leonel Callez was 1/2 and Gustavo Gutierrez was 1/4 with a walk and a stolen base.
