Blue Jays from Away

While the Toronto Blue Jays' minor league organization was 4-5 in nine games, the class-A Advanced Dunedin Blue Jays swept their doubleheader, giving up just one run in 14 innings of baseball.

Buffalo Bisons 6, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 9

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons got swept away by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders before heading home in a noon game, losing 9-6.

Richard Urena continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI but Danny Jansen went further, hitting his sixth home run, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Jason Leblebijian was also 2-for-4, driving in a run and Tim Lopes was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run while Dwight Smith Jr. was 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run.

Nick Tepesch allowed three home runs leading to seven runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings while returnee to the Blue Jays' organization, Zach Stewart, allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout over 2 2/3 and newcomer Brandon Cumpton pitched a clean ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Reading Fightin Phils 13

Tayler Saucedo made his double-A debut as the balls were flying out of Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Unfortunately while both teams hit three home runs, the Reading Fightin Phils heaped 17 hits on the Fisher Cats and beat them 13-3.

Cavan Biggio, Harold Ramirez and Connor Panas (Toronto, Ont.) each hit a solo home run while Jon Berti was 2-for-4 with a double. Bo Bichette was 1-for-4 wtih a double and Biggio added a walk to his league-leading 18th home run.

Saucedo allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings and Nick Hartman gave up three runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout in two innings, Kirby Snead surrendered three more runs on two hits and a hit batter over one inning and Nash Knight pitched the ninth, giving up a run on three hits.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Fort Myers Miracle 1

Patrick Murphy and Kacy Clemens gave the class-A Dunedin Blue Jays everything they needed in a 2-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle as they opened their doubleheader to make up for Wednesday's rain out.

Murphy picked up his sixth win with the D-Jays as he tossed a complete game, giving up just three hits and a walk, adding up to just a run on a solo home run by Travis Blankenhorn, striking out six.

Clemens is still below the Mendoza Line but was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, driving in both runs. Santiago Espinal was 1-for-3 with a double.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Fort Myers Miracle 0

There was even less scoring in the second half of the doubleheader as the Dunedin Blue Jays got a lone run in the top of the seventh to shut out the Fort Myers Miracle 1-0. Connor Eller started, going four scoreless frames, allowing three hits and a walk with one strikeout and Andy Ravel provided a scoreless fifth, striking out two. Jake Fishman picked up the win, throwing two perfect innings, racking up three strikeouts.

The Blue Jays had eight hits including a single and a double from both Santiago Espinal and Ivan Castillo. Joshua Palacios singled and walked and scored the game's only run while Kevin Smith was 1-for-4 with the RBI.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 6

In what was billed as a "Rivalry Night," the Lansing Lugnuts came up short as the West Michigan Whitecaps scored four in the third (as well as a couple of single runs in two other innings), beating the Lugnuts 6-2.

Andrew Deramo started, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in three innings. Braden Bouchey (White Rock, B.C.) walked five batters in 1 1/3 innings, leading to one run. Dany Jimenez tossed 2 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, walking three and Brody Rodning walked two in 2 1/3 innings to bring the club's total to 12 walks in the game and struck out two.

Kevin Vicuna was 2-for-5 and Norberto Obeso was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, scoring a run. Brandon Grudzielanek was 2-for-4 and Freddy Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a nice catch in left field. Jesus Navarro was 1-for-4 with a double and Ryan Noda was on base twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Everett AquaSox 4

The class-A Short Season Vancouver Canadians got a boost of much-needed offense in an 8-4 win over the Everett AquaSox.

Griffin Conine was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI while Yorman Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, stealing a base. Tanner Kirwer (Sherwood Park, Alta.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs and Jesus Severino was 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the Canadians' seven-run second inning.

Jordan Barrett picked up his second win allowing four runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings and Juan Nunez struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, giving up a hit. Denis Diaz struck out a pair in one inning, walking one and Connor Law finished the game, allowing a hit and nothing more in the ninth, striking out two.

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Pulaski Yankees 5

The Bluefield Blue Jays were tamed by the Pulaski Yankees, losing 5-3 after scoring three runs in the first. Alejandro Kirk had another fine day, going 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run while John Aiello was 1-for-4 with a double and Hagen Danner was 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and was hit by a pitch and he added a stolen base. Cal Stevenson was 1-for-5 with a run and two stolen bases and D.J. Neal, hitting .420 on the year, was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.

Felipe Castaneda was on the mound to start the game, giving up three runs on six hits (including a home run) with a walk and one strikeout in three innings. Joey Pulido went two frames, allowing two runs on three hits (including a home run) and a walk with two strikeouts. Josh Almonte gave up a hit and a walk with one strikeout in his inning and Joe DiBenedetto allowed a hit and a walk in two innings, striking out three.

GCL Blue Jays 13, GCL Yankees East 4

The GCL Blue Jays were held off the scoreboard for the first three innings but then they couldn't be held off afterwards, scoring runs in each inning the rest of the way on their way to a 13-4 victory over the GCL Yankees East.

Warnel Valdez was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs while Francisco Ruiz drove in three runs, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Hector Guerrero was 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, an RBI and two runs and Jordan Groshans drove in four runs, going 2-for-4 with a double. Steward Berroa was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and run and Yhordegny Kelly was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Rafael Monsion started and went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Nicolas Medina gave up a hit in the sixth while Ryan Thurston allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in two innings, striking out two. Anderson Nunez finished the game, walking one in the ninth.

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Orioles 2

With just three hits, the DSL Blue Jays lost 2-1 to the DSL Orioles, squandering a strong pitching performance. Lazaro Estrada struck out six over six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Christian Reyes allowed a hit and a walk in two innings, striking out one.

Jose Rivas had a triple and a walk for the Blue Jays, scoring their only run.
