TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama’s offence erupted for a season-high 14 runs in baseball’s 14-2 win over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide clinched the series with the victory and is now 11-5 on the season.
The Tide posted 14 runs on 14 hits to go with five walks and five hit-by-pitches as all nine starters reached base safely on Saturday. Eight of the nine starters contributed at least one hit while seven of the nine starters recorded an RBI and seven starters also added at least one run scored. The offence was led by the Tide’s 3-4-5 hitters in Tommy Seidl, Zane Denton and Drew Williamson. The trio contributed seven hits, including a double and one home run, to go with eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, Ont.) added a run and an RBI for the Tide.
Montreal native Antoine Jean (1-1) picked up the win with a career-high tying six innings. Jean allowed one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in his final start before Southeastern Conference play begins.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
“I’m really pleased with the effort today; it was really complete game for us. Antoine (Jean) gave us great start, was sharp out of the gate, and I really liked the way we came out. We were a little off schedule – we hit inside today and obviously the conditions weren't great. We've had a little more practice with that this year – more than we would like in our sport – but we came out hot. We scored five in the first, and sometimes when you get out front early, typically you can give some at-bats away in the middle of the game. But, in the fourth inning, we really busted it open, and I was proud of our guys. We had a lot of production up and down the lineup. Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit, we got some extra-base hits and played clean defence. It was just really a complete effort today, and I’m really, really pleased.”
How It Happened
B1 | Jim Jarvis led the game off with a triple and came home in the next at-bat thanks to an RBI-single from Tommy Seidl. Seidl was joined on the bases by Zane Denton, who singled to put two on for Drew Williamson. The Tide first baseman took advantage of the opportunity, sending a three-run home run over the wall in right. Eric Foggo followed with a homer of his own, this one a solo shot, one out later to cap the scoring. (5-0, Alabama)
B2 | Dominic Tamez added one more for the Tide with a two-out RBI-single. Tamez brought Denton in, who reached with a one-out walk before moving into scoring position on a wild pitch (6-0, Alabama)
T3 | A leadoff walk followed by a single put a pair of runners on the corners for the Bearcats. The man from third came home in the next at-bat on a fielder’s choice. (6-1, Alabama)
B4 | Williamson got the scoring started, delivering an RBI-double with two on to score one and move a man to third. A groundout in the next at-bat from Tamez added one more. After a walk and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, a fielder’s choice from Owen Diodati scored one and kept them loaded. Pinckney took advantage of his RBI opportunity, plating a pair on a double to right-center. After a hit by pitch loaded them up again, Seidl drew a walk to push one across before an RBI-single from Denton added one more. (14-1, Alabama)
T9 | A solo home run from Nick Roselli added one for the Bearcats. (14-2, Alabama)
