Leafs hold off Majors to even IBL finals

TORONTO – Franklin Hernandez got Taylor Wright to ground out with the bases loaded to end Game 2 of the Dominico Cup final and give Toronto a 9-6 win over London Thursday under the lights at Christie Pits.

The best-of-seven series is tied 1-1 with Game 3 Friday night at Labatt Park.

Hernandez walked one in 2/3 of an inning for his second playoff save. He took over from Dylan Jacober (3-0), who earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out 10.

Leafs starter Sam Greene lasted three innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Offensively, Justin Marra went 4-for-4 and finished a triple short of the cycle. He drove in four and scored twice. Jose Vinicio, Johnathan Solazzo and Dan Marra drove in the other runs. Both Solazzo and Damon Topolie had two hits apiece.

Byron Reichstein hit a two-run home run for the Majors. Cleveland Brownlee added a two-run double while Jakob Newton went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Gibson Krzeminski added an RBI.

Pedro De Los Santos (1-2) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits over four innings. He walked five and fanned four.
