Official Quebec Capitales News Release

The Quebec Capitales have signed Quebec outfielder Marc-Antoine Lebreux and Canadian reliever Jake Sims.

The 22-year-old Lebreux, a native and resident of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que., already has an extensive baseball resume that includes four seasons with the Bisons de Saint-Eustache (LBJÉQ). He has also suited up for the Canadian Baseball Academy (ABC), the Junior National Team, Seminole College and the University of Virginia.

The speedy left-handed hitter has consistently hit for a high average and should bat near the top of the Capitales' lineup.

"When I was younger, I would come to the stadium with my dad and tell him how much I'd like to play for the Capitales on my journey to Major League Baseball. It's really an honour to be able to wear the colours of the team!" said Lebreux.

Statistically, he posted a .408 batting average and belted nine home runs in 120 at-bats in his first year at Seminole College (2017-18 season). He had another strong season the following year, finishing with a .376 average with nine home runs, 57 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. In 2020 with the University of Virginia, he played in 18 games and recorded a .303 average with five doubles and 14 runs.

Right-handed reliever Jake Sims was in the Capitales’ plans at the beginning of the 2021 season, but an arm injury a week before the start of the season sidelined him.

A native of Guelph, Ont., and a 31st round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2018, the right-hander is best known for his fastball. During his two seasons in affiliated baseball, he retired 81 hitters in 47 innings.

The Capitales' 2022 season kicks off on May 13 on the road in the Windy City against the Thunderbolts and their first game at Canac Stadium will be on May 24 against the Gateway Grizzlies.
