North Shore Twins and Junior National Team alum Adam Maier (North Vancouver, B.C.) is the 67th best prospect heading into the 2022 MLB Draft, according to Baseball America.
The highly regarded publication posted their updated 2022 Top 100 MLB Draft Prospects list on Monday.
The North Vancouver, B.C., native’s stock has risen considerably since his performance with Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod Baseball League last summer.
“He posted a 4.56 ERA in 25 2/3 innings for Yarmouth-Dennis and showed a solid three-pitch mix including a fastball up to 94-95 mph, a potentially above-average slider with big spin and a changeup that generated a solid number of whiffs,” reads part of Baseball America’s scouting report on Maier.
Maier, 20, had been part of the University of British Columbia program, but unfortunately they did not play in 2021. He has since transferred to the University of Oregon where he will pitch this spring.
“His collegiate track record is minimal, and he isn’t the most physically imposing arm at 6-foot, 203 pounds, but his summer performance makes him one of the most anticipated college pitchers in the class,” reads part of Maier’s Baseball America scouting report. “He has a chance to shoot up boards with a strong year.”
Maier, who also ranks No. 1 on the Canadian Baseball Network’s 2022 Draft List, toed the rubber for the Canadian Junior National Team in 2019 at the WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup in South Korea prior to heading to UBC where he was a two-way player during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign.
In 2019, the young right-hander dominated the BC Premier Baseball League as a member of the North Shore Twins, posting a 7-2 record with a 0.24 ERA in 14 games, including eight starts. He fanned 88 in 58 1/3 innings.
Coached by Brooks McNiven, Maier also tossed a perfect game against the Langley Blaze in 2019.
For his efforts, he was named the BCPL’s top pitcher and league MVP.
