Quirion shines at Lamar University

Quebec’s Mr. Baseball
Before the start of the 2020 season, Quebec player Anthony Quirion was selected by Perfect Game to its Southland Conference preseason all-star team as a third baseman.
This year, 19 days before the start of the NCAA Division I season, Quirion is once again honoured by Perfect Game on the Southland Conference preseason all-star team, but this time as a catcher.
Wow! What phenomenal proof of versatility.
Quirion’s 2020 season with his Lamar University Cardinals in Texas was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the athlete from Dixville, Que. took part in 17 games and posted a batting average of .324, with three doubles and three home runs. The 6-foot-3 colossus, weighing just over 200 pounds, also knocked in 18 runs.
An as if that wasn’t enough, Quirion was perfect in 81 chances on defence in those 17 games.
It’s no wonder then that Perfect Game’s comment on his selection reads: “Versatile defender with consistent bat.”
Quirion and his teammates, including Quebecer Déric Lamontagne (Beloeil, Que.) start their 2021 season on Feb. 19 at University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Tex.
