Ontario Terriers' Burgess-Whiting commits to LaGrange College

Right-handed pitcher Bryce Burgess-Whiting will make the 1,559 kilometre trip from Guelph, Ont., to LaGrange, Ga., to continue his academic and baseball career when he graduates from the Ontario Terriers.

The relationship between Burgess-Whiting and LaGrange dates back to August when he attended a showcase in Atlanta.

"After my outing the pitching coach and I had a great conversation in the dugout," he said. "That followed with multiple phones calls over the next two months and finally me going down to the school in early November.

And on Sunday the young hurler announced his commitment to the Panthers. It was a combination of factors that attracted him to the program, including the opportunity to go to the southern region of the United States.

"LaGrange was the right fit for me because of the great coaches and winning attitude in the locker room," he said. "Being able to go to the south was also very important to me."

Burgess-Whiting is the fourth Terrier to make a commitment this month and he thanks the organization for their support along the way. Terriers 18U head coach Dean Dicenzo was thrilled to see another player from the program find a home at the next level.

"Bryce loves to pitch," Dicenzo said. "He always wants the ball and is constantly looking to get better. He'll be a great fit at LaGrange."

Now that he knows where he'll ply his trade in college, Burgess-Whiting is focused on making himself the best pitcher he can be before arriving in the Peach State.

"I want to get as strong as possible and work on polishing all my pitches before heading off to school," he said. " If I can do that it will give me a good chance to help my team out right away."
