Quebec’s Mr. Baseball
Nicolas Deschamps sparked the Florida TNXL Academy Ducks’ offence in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Monday.
In the third inning, with his team leading 1-0 over the IMG Academy from Bradenton, Fla., Deschamps (Quebec City, Que.) slammed a two-run double to push his team’s lead to 3-0.
And he didn’t stop there. He also had a single and a walk and finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. The two RBIs were his 16th and 17th of the season.
In addition to Deschamps, who caught, two other Quebecers took part in the game: Yohann Dessureault as DH and Nathan Laliberté as a pinchrunner.
Dessureault (Trois-Rivieres, Que.) went 0-for-4, while Laliberté (Montreal, Que.) stole a base.
In the end, the TNXL Academy won 7-4.
Seven Quebec players are with Florida TNXLl and that number will soon be eight, because Mathieu Voros (Anjou, Que.) will join Gabriel Archambault (Laval, Que.), Matis Brochu (St-Jean sur Richelie, Que.), Dominic Teoli (Montreal, Que.), Jessy Camire (Kingsey Falls, Que.), Deschamps, Dessureault and Laliberté.

After three hits in the first game, Deschamps proceeded to reach base five times in five plate appearances in the second game. He had a home run and two singles and collected four RBIs.
In the Florida TNXL’s 18-0 win, the team’s Quebec players were involved in 11 of the first 12 runs. Two of them were in the starting lineup: Dessureault at third base, while Deschamps was the designated hitter.
Deschamps gave his team a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single.
Then it was Dessureault’s turn to add a run for TNXL when he registered an RBI when he hit into a fielder’s choice, giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Deschamps walked and came around to score on a passed ball.
Brought in as a pinch runner in the fourth inning, Laliberté stole the second, then third before scoring to make it 5-0. For Laliberté, it was his second and third stolen bases of the day.
