KANSAS CITY, KAN. – The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped the opening game of a three-game series with the Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at Legends Field by a score of 5-4.
The Goldeyes opened the scoring on the second pitch of the game with a home run by Jacob Robson (Windsor, Ont.) that left the bat at 107 miles per hour and travelled 447 feet to deep left-centre field. Following a walk to Ray-Patrick Didder, Max Murphy hit a double to right-centre to drive in Didder from first to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Monarchs answered in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to left field by shortstop Josh Bissonette to cut the lead to 2-1.
Kansas City took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run to left-centre off the bat of Robbie Glendinning that scored Isiah Gilliam and put the Monarchs ahead 3-2.
The home side added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth on an fielder’s choice by Jhailyn Ortiz that brought Jorge Bonifacio in from third to make the score 4-2. One batter later, Jaylyn Williams hit a soft single up the middle scoring Gilliam to make it a 5-2 lead.
The Goldeyes closed the gap to one run in the eighth inning on a Tanner O’Tremba two-run single scoring Robson from second and Murphy from first to cut the lead down to 5-4 and that would be the final score.
The Goldeyes sent right-hander Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, Alta.) out for his second start of the year. He went 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits, five runs (all earned), walked a batter and struck out a season high of seven.
Patrick Pridgen got the start for the Monarchs. He lasted five innings, giving up three hits, two runs – both earned, walked two and struck out four in his 2025 season debut.
