Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Brooks Bombers 14-6 on Monday night to take a 1-0 lead in their West division semifinal series.

The Dawgs were backed by a stellar performance from Ricky Sanchez who went 5-for-6 and hit for the cycle. His batting line included two triples, a home run and four RBIs.

“Obviously it’s pretty special. It’s a great team win, but we’re not done,” said Sanchez postgame.

Along with Sanchez’s fantastic game, the Dawgs received significant offensive contributions from Micah McDowell (Kentville, N.S.) who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Jacob Morrow who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) had a multi-hit night and scored two runs in the Dawgs’ victory.

Dawgs ace Graham Brunner (Sherwood Park, Alta.) started on the mound and earned the victory after tossing 4 1/3 innings and recording five strikeouts. Relief efforts from Cade Herrmann, Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) and Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.) shut down the Bombers’ bats.

Matt Wilkinson (Okotoks, Alta.) made an appearance in the ninth inning and promptly ended the game throwing three strikeouts.

The Dawgs will travel to Brooks on Tuesday for game two of the series.
