Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release

The Okotoks Dawgs are excited to announce the return of Mitch Schmidt (aka the “Big Bear”) for the 2025 season.

He joined the Dawgs while serving as associate head coach at Bellevue University and was at the helm when the club captured the 2021 WCBL championship, the first in a historic three-peat of league championships.

He has been on medical leave the past two seasons and relinquished managerial duties to head coach, Lou Pote, who delivered WCBL championships in 2022 and 2023. While on leave, he has continued to be an integral part of the Dawgs off-season player recruiting.

Dawgs fans can look forward to seeing him in the dugout commencing on June 6. He will serve as co-manager along with Pote and alongside bench coach, David Robb, infield coach, Andy Peterson and pitching coach, Joe Sergent.
