When the Toronto Baseball Association -- the TBA -- was in trouble at the Ontario Summer Games, it turned to JKJ.
Jordan Kubin-Jacobs hit a three-run home run to give Toronto a 10-8 win over York-Simcoe to take the gold medal for coach Jeff Sawchuk.
More than 3,500 athletes competed in 17 different disciplines with this competition staged at Meadowvale and Greg Cranker Field at 9th Line in Mississauga. A total of 12 teams from OBA associations across the province competed.
In the Gold medal game, the TBA was down 8-2 after three innings. Kubin-Jacobs had three hits including a three-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth to give the TBA the lead. Nolan Walsh, who earned the win, and Sean Parkinson combined to also strike out nine.
In Game 1, the TBA dropped a 6-4 decision to Sun Parlour.
Next, TBA levelled its record at 1-1 with a 9-2 romp over Hamilton. Jack Sawchuk , grandson of hard-working umpire Joe Sawchuk, was 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles on the opening day. Jeff is a hitter like his grandfather and unfortunately has speed like his grandfather.
The TBA then knocked off London 13-3 as Max Wiklander earned the win, striking out seven. The TBA had six hits and worked nine walks.
In the medal round game, the TBA beat Sun Parlour 13-9. Andrew Tilley was the winning pitcher, as he and Stefano Parente combined to strike out nine.
In the five games, Joey Khananisho, Kubin-Jacob and Sawchuk hit over .400. TBA players represented Etobicoke, Leaside, North Toronto, North York and West Toronto.
