Canadian Scott Thorman has been named the Kansas City Royals minor league field coordinator.

The Cambridge, Ont., native makes the transition to the role after serving as manager of the club’s triple-A affiliate in Omaha in 2022.

The Royals announced the move as part of a series of organizational changes on Wednesday.

Thorman managed the Royals’ triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers to a 71-78 record in 2022. Prior to that, he had guided Royals’ affiliates to three straight championships.

In 2021, Thorman managed the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to a double-A Central championship. In 2018 and 2019, he piloted the class-A Lexington Legends and High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks to titles respectively.

In all, the 41-year-old Canuck has managed for parts of six seasons in the Royals’ organization, starting with the Rookie-ball Burlington Royals in 2016.

Prior to his managerial career, Thorman was selected in the first round (30th overall) in the 2000 MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves. He competed in parts of eights seasons in the Braves’ organization, including belting 16 home runs in 175 games at the big league level in 2006 and 2007.

He completed his playing career with stints in the Texas Rangers, Royals and Detroit Tigers organizations from 2009 to 2011.

Thorman has also competed in several international competitions for the Canadian National Team, including the 2001 World Cup, 2006 World Baseball Classic and 2008 Olympics.
