SARASOTA, Fla. - The Junior National Team got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the first inning and never looked back to lock in their first win of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, prevailing over South Africa 5-2.

Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue (St-Pie, Que.) started and was strong on the mound for Canada, allowing just two runs, while striking out six, in 5 2/3 innings.

Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) and Keegan O’Hearn (Oshawa, Ont.) led Canada's offence. Each had two hits and an RBI.

But contributions came from almost everywhere in the lineup as seven of the nine Canadian starters collected at least one hit.

Tyrus Hall (Victoria, BC) had a clutch hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Canada ahead 5-2. He finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) came into the game in the top of the sixth and recorded a four-out save.

Canada will conclude Opening Round play on Wednesday at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota against Korea with the first pitch set for 9 a.m. E.T..
