Game 5 - Weyburn 4 at Swift Current 6

(Swift Current wins the series 3-2)

The Swift Current 57’s are headed back to the WMBL Championship Final. Swift Current scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete an incredible comeback and win 6-4 in Game 5 on Friday.

The 57’s lost the first two games of the Eastern Division series before battling back to take the final three contests.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Swift Current’s Bodie Cooper walked with the bases loaded to score Cole Thibideau to break the 4-4 deadlock. Nick Canas then singled to bring the speedy Riley Campbell home with an insurance run to make the score 6-4 for Swift Current.

Evan Weidner, the senior from Adams State University, had two hits including a triple and three RBI for Weyburn.

Swift Current reliever Layne Downing earned his second win in three playoff games. He picked up for starter Bobby St. Pierre and threw 1 2/3 shutout innings. Closer Keil Krumwiede came out for the ninth inning to earn the save.

Weyburn’s Cody Pamperin took the loss giving up two runs on two hits and two walks over two innings.

The 57's celebrated their Eastern Division Pennant win with the 612 fans who filled Mitchell Field.
