It’s not much.
But hey, it’s something.
When the Division I college baseball season gets underway on Friday, fans north of the border will have the chance to watch.
And yes, it’ll include Canadian players.
The MLB Network will be broadcasting games from the Desert Invitational in Arizona. The field of eight teams is comprised of Austin Peay, Grand Canyon, defending Big Ten champion Nebraska, New Mexico, San Diego State, Seton Hall, UC Irvine and Vanderbilt.
Among those on the rosters are five Canadians across three teams:
Austin Peay C Keaton Cottam (Burlington, Ont.).
Nebraska left-handed pitcher Caleb Clark (Orillia, Ont.), catcher Colin Cymbalista (Pickering, Ont.) and outfielder Riley Silva (Cambridge, Ont.).
New Mexico right-handed pitcher Charles Lavigne (Blainville, Que.).
Three games will grace your television screen, two of which have Canadians.
Austin Peay squares off with Seton Hall at 3 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Keaton Cottam is coming off a 2024 season that saw him hit .364 in 16 games. He posted a .429 on-base percentage and slugged .432.
In the nightcap, Nebraska takes on Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. ET.
Southpaw Caleb Clark was part of the Huskers’ opening weekend rotation last season, starting Game 3 of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Tex. He tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits while issuing three walks and striking out three.
Colin Cymbalista is a junior college transfer from Hutchinson Community College where he hit .393 with 12 home runs, 70 RBI and a 1.156 OPS as a sophomore.
Riley Silva played in 61 of his team’s 62 games in 2024 and was a threat with his legs all season. He swiped 32-of-35 bases and hit .256.
