The start of a new month brought with it impressive performances from Canadians across college baseball.

Check out the best below.

UBC splits with No. 7 Lewis-Clark State

The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds rallied after dropping games 1 and 2 to No. 7 Lewis-Clark State to earn a split by winning games 3 and 4.

Southpaw Will Anderson (Delta, BC) got the start in Game 2 and lasted 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit and a walk. He struck out eight in the 2-1 loss.

Trailing the series 2-1, Daniel Orfaly (White Rock, BC) took the hill in Game 4 and delivered six innings. The right-hander gave up an unearned run on five hits and two walks. He fanned six.

Jonny McGill (Richmond, BC) provided eight hits, two walks and seven RBIs. He hit three home runs: a solo shot in Game 1 and two-run homers in games 3 and 4.

David Krahn (Langley, BC) homered twice, including a grand slam as part of a two-hit, five RBI Game 3. He was also hit by a pitch. To follow it up, he swatted a solo shot on the way to a 3-for-5 performance with three RBIs in Game 4.

Chee-Aloy sets single game steals record, two others stand out for Illini

With his five steals in a 19-8 win over Aurora, Cameron Chee-Aloy (Toronto, Ont.) set the University of Illinois single game stolen base record. He also produced three hits, a walk and two more steals as the Illini went 1-2 in the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic.

Chee-Aloy wasn’t the only one to play well for Illinois, as Greg LaChance (Whitby, Ont.) went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk against Aurora. He then walked twice in a 10-6 loss to Texas Tech.

Nick Groves (Bayfield, Ont.) chipped in seven hits, walked once, drove in four, was hit by a pitch and swiped a pair of bases.

Yusypchuk shines again

Right-hander Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, Alta.) continued the strong start to his freshman season on Friday night against the University of Louisiana Monroe when he threw six innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out nine in an eventual 9-8 loss. Over the course of three starts this season, Yusypchuk owns a 2.04 ERA.

Arbuthnot with three-hit game

Carter Arbuthnot (Oshawa, Ont.) went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and was hit by a pitch in Shippensburg University’s 19-1 win over Lincoln. Later in the week he walked in a loss to Slippery Rock.

Then, in a 18-8 win over Mississippi College, he went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and two stolen bases. That was all before a weekend series against Arkansas Tech that saw him have two hits and two walks despite the Muleriders dropping two of three.

Houston has hits in all five games

Nathan Houston (Regina, Sask.) was impressive for Arizona Western collecting 11 hits, five walks, nine RBIs and 10 stolen bases. He stole four bases in a 9-0 win over California Post Grad and followed it up with three hits, one of which was a home run, three RBIs and a stolen base in the rematch, a game in which the Matadors cruised to a 22-0 victory.

Lefebvre laces four knocks

Infielder Lucas Lefebvre (Coquitlam, BC) had four hits, one being a solo home run, a walk and six RBIs as Missouri Baptist finished 3-0 on the week. Three of his hits and five of the RBIs came in a convincing 19-2 win over Hannibal LaGrange.

Great Lake Canadians grad Curtis McKay (Dorchester, Ont.) had three hits and four RBIs to help Niagara University to an 11-1 win over Valparaiso on February 28. Photo: Niagara Athletics/X

Hammill, McKay help Spatafora to first win

Niagara University head coach Matt Spatafora (Scarborough, Ont.) earned his first win as head coach with the program when the Purple Eagles beat Valparaiso 11-1 in Game 1 of their series.

Elijha Hammill (Toronto, Ont.) had two hits, two walks and an RBI while Curtis McKay (Dorchester, Ont.) contributed three hits, a walk and four RBIs. Hammill then went 2-for-4 with a pair of walks in a 16-11 Game 2 loss. Game 3 was cancelled.

Gomm makes most of opportunity

Austin Gomm (Georgetown, Ont.) didn’t see action until Game 3 of LSU Shreveport’s series with Louisiana Christian, but did he ever have an impact. The former Ontario Terrier hit a solo home run and a three-run shot in a 12-0 win to help the Pilots sweep and improve to 19-0.

Doucette does damage

It was a tough week for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as they finished 1-3 and were swept by Coastal Carolina, but Ty Doucette (Dartmouth, N.S.) was a standout. Doucette collected five hits, three walks and three RBIs in the four games. In a 6-5 Game 2 loss to Coastal Carolina, he swatted a pair of solo shots.

Coquitlam Reds alum Cassidy Watt (Coquitlam, BC) had nine hits and eight RBIs for Dakota State last week. Photo: Dakota State Athletics

Busy week for Watt, Dakota State

Dakota State posted a 5-2 record with the help of nine hits from Cassidy Watt (Coquitlam, BC). Watt also walked twice, drove in eight and was hit by a pitch. He went 4-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-2 Game 2 win over Sterling.

Dauphinee goes deep twice

After getting two midweek games off, Ryan Dauphinee (White Rock, BC) was back to his hitting ways in a four-game series against Columbia. He totalled nine hits, six RBIs and a stolen base. During a 13-12 Game 1 win, he hit a solo home run before hitting a two-run homer in a 4-3 Game 3 win. In the end, the two teams would split the series.

Lachance leaves the yard

Catcher Deiten Lechance (Sherbrooke, Que.) hit two home runs as part of a six-hit series for McLennan Community College as they swept New Mexico Junior College. By the time the series was over, Lachance had also walked, driven in four and stolen two bases.

Spoljaric pitches well for Stetson

Former Toronto Met Turner Spoljaric (Lisle, Ont.) spun five innings for Stetson in their 8-1 loss to Indiana, giving up an unearned run on five hits. He struck out two in the start.

ABC alum Alexis Gravel (Repentigny, Que.) tossed six innings in his start and picked up his second win of the season for McNeese State. Photo: McNeese State Athletics

Gravel improved to 2-0

Alexis Gravel (Repentigny, Que.) worked around six walks in six innings of work to pick up his second victory of the season. He allowed one run on one hit and struck out nine as McNeese State downed Nicholls 5-1 in Game 1 of a three-game series.

Kilbreath continues to pitch well

The College of the Sequoias have known exactly what they’re getting from Tyson Kilbreath (Calgary, Alta.) this season; a chance to win. KIlbreath continued that trend when he threw seven innings and surrendered one run on three hits in an 11-7 win over Merced. He walked one and struck out six.

Wuschke wins

Eight innings of one-run baseball earned Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) his first win of the season for No. 15 Bellevue. He allowed four hits and struck out six in a 6-2 win over Hastings.

Hartman has eight hits

The highlight of the week for Max Hartman (St. Albert, Alta.) was a 4-for-4 game with a walk, four RBIs and a stolen base in Washington State’s 12-7 Game 1 win over Iowa. Over the course of four other games, Hartman had four more hits, two walks, two RBIs and another stolen base. He hit a solo homer in Game 3 against Iowa, which ended in a 6-4 victory for the Cougars.

Prairie Baseball Academy grad Max Benton (Clyde River, PEI) allowed just one run on two hits in a seven-inning complete game for William Woods. Photo: William Woods Athletics

Benton tosses complete game

Max Benton (Clyde River, PEI) took the ball for William Woods and never relinquished it en route to a seven inning complete game. He yielded one run on two hits with two walks and six punch outs to beat William Baptist 2-1.

Rumberg picks up victory for Patriots

Logan Rumberg (Okotoks, Alta.) gave George Mason five strong innings to help them defeat William & Mary 12-1. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out six to move his record to 1-1 on the season.

Forno, Fujie contribute for Campbellsville

Brady Forno (Okotoks, Alta.) and Yosuke Fujie (Mission, BC) have been contributors for the Campbellville University Tigers this season.

Last week, Forno earned the win on the mound in a 4-1 victory over Brescia thanks to five scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit and struck out five.

Fujie, meanwhile, had 10 hits, four walks, six RBIs and six stolen bases in eight games played. He hit a three-run home run in the Tigers’ 16-5 Game 2 win over Aquinas.

Smith secures Siena Heights’ first win

Garrett Smith (Coaldale, Alta.) not only picked up his first win of the season against New College of Florida but got Siena Heights into the win column for the first time. Smith threw six innings and surrendered one run on four hits and four walks with six punch outs.

Going Yard Baseball Academy alum Adam Korte (Muenster, Sask.) permitted just one run in six innings in his start to lead Dawson Community College to a win over Northeastern Junior College. Photo: Going Yard Baseball Academy

Korte comes up with big start

Adam Korte (Muenster, Sask.) tiptoed around six walks and three hits over six innings to allow just one run in Dawson Community College’s 10-5 win over Northeastern Junior College. He struck out six in the start.

Germann, Dutton provide power for Morehead State

The combination of Davis Germann (Kitchener, Ont.) and JJ Dutton (Toronto, Ont.) gave Morehead State plenty of offence in their four games.

Germann amassed four hits, walked five times, drove in five, stole a base and was hit by a pitch. He swatted a two-run home run and a solo shot in a 22-21 Game 1 win over Quinnipiac.

Dutton finished with four hits, four walks and six RBIs. In the finale of their series with Quinnipiac, a 14-13 victory, he hit a two-run home run and a three-run home run.

Galenza gathers hits in five games

Gavin Galenza (Red Deer, Alta.) was instrumental in Colby Community College’s 4-2 week. Galenza had 11 hits, three walks, eight RBIs and a stolen base. He homered in a 14-4 win over Lamar Community College and again in a 10-0 victory over Northeastern Junior College.

Waters with three, three-hit games

The headline says it all. Wylie Waters (Vancouver, BC) started his week with three hits, two walks and four RBIs in a 16-10 USC Upstate win over Western Carolina. Next up was a three-game set with UMass Lowell where he collected seven hits, including a pair of three-hit games, a walk, seven RBIs and a stolen base. He went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a walk and six RBIs to help the Spartans win Game 2, 24-12.

Vauxhall Jets grad Kalem Haney (Lethbridge, Alta.) had eight hits and three walks for the University of Mary last week. Photo: University of Mary Athletics

Haney can hit

It should come as no surprise when the University of Mary gets production out of a Canadian. Last week, it was Kalem Haney (Lethbridge, Alta.) who produced eight hits, three walks, three RBIs, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch. His best effort came in the week’s opening game as he went 4-for-7 with a solo home run, a walk, two RBIs and a stolen base to help the Maurauders beat Missouri Western State 26-22. He homered again, a solo shot, in the finale of a four-game series with Minnesota State Mankato. It wouldn’t be enough, however, as UMary was swept.

Flodell helps Hawks take flight

Oakland Flodell (Clavet, Sask.) joined the list of Canadians who had busy weeks as he played in seven games, accumulating seven hits, five walks, nine RBIs and three stolen bases. He left the yard three times, two of which came in an 18-4 Northeast win over Butler Community College. In that one, he hit a solo and two-run home run. He also homered in the finale of a four-game series with McCook.

Jackson’s California dreamin’

Core Jackson (Wyoming, Ont.) is enjoying the University of Utah’s trip to California. He played in all five of the Utes games and collected 13 hits, two walks, 10 RBIs and a stolen base to help his team go 4-1. He was also hit by a pair of pitches.

Over 1,100 Canadians are on college baseball rosters, making for a lot to keep track of.
