There really aren’t words that I can use to describe how proud I am of my younger brother Cameron Fitzpatrick (Cambridge, Ont.), but that won’t stop me from trying.
He recently committed to play baseball for the Genesee Community College Cougars in Batavia, NY, led by head coaches Skip Sherman and Gary Manella.
When I asked him why Genesee over everywhere else, Cam told me, “I got to meet the coaches and players, they’re all great people. The facilities are topnotch too.”
My family always knew he was going to be the sports type – it’s hard not to when you tower over your 5-foot-8 older brother at 6-foot-3 – we just weren’t sure which sport it was going to be.
See, Cam played a bit of everything growing up. Basketball, lacrosse, you name it. He didn’t actually step foot onto a diamond until 2021 to play some house league ball.
From there, he hit the ground running. He finished his house league year, played for a bit with the Kitchener Panthers, and then settled in as a left-handed pitcher with the Tri-City Giants.

With his fastball, slider, and changeup combination, I’ve watched him terrorize both right and left-handed batters during his time with the team. They’re tools that he’s hoping will bolster Genesee’s crew that was lacking a single lefty in 2024.
“I’m going to do everything I can every start. I just have to bring my arm each game and bring my best,” Cam said.
He’ll have the 2025 season with the Giants to prepare for 2026 with the Cougars who are coming off back-to-back winning seasons in 2023 (30-14) and 2024 (27-23). So far in 2025, they’re 2-2 in NJCAA’s Region III Conference.
The school isn’t just a winning program either. They’re a winning program close to home. Our family will be able to watch plenty of Cam’s games as his new home is only an hour away from Niagara Falls.
Cameron Fitzpatrick signs his contract to attend Genesee Community College with his dad, James, and mom, Jami, at his high school.
And while I’ll certainly let Cam say his thank yous to those who helped get him there the most first:
“I’d love to thank mom (Jami) and dad (James) for dealing with me all these years and also thank you to all of my coaches from Tri-City and Kitchener.”
I’m selfishly going to leave my own message to Cam here:
Congratulations to the best younger brother I could’ve ever asked for.
You’re going to do fantastic in this new beginning. I know that because we’ve been there for each other through all of the highs, lows, and everything in between.
Your drive to succeed is an unstoppable force. Keep channeling that energy and you’ll achieve even more than you ever thought possible.
I can’t wait to see what comes your way next in this baseball journey of yours. Just know that whatever it is, I’ll be right there, ready to brag about it to everyone that will listen or read.
The sky’s the limit for you my not so little little brother.
Your not so big, big brother is always rooting for you.
